I love words - and I will assume that you do, too since you have accessed this page.
Over the years as a teacher, professor, workshop leader, speaker, and writer, I have prepared for a number of different projects by "messing around," experimenting, and playing with words and language. When I get going on a project like this, I generally use a variety of tools to keep the creative momentum moving. For example, |

- Dictionaries (on and off-line),
- Thesauri (be sure to go to www.MyFavoriteThesaurus.com)
- my brain - just sitting and thinking about words,
- and so forth.

Seeking words and playing with language in this way has allowed me to generate humongous lists of words (and phrases) to use for different purposes (e.g., 500+ Writing Prompts). This teaching tool of 1001 Descriptors is the result of one of these projects.

| In the opening sections of 1001 Descriptors, I share some ways that you can use this list with students, colleagues, workshop participants (or even for yourself) to learn new words, expand written language, explore characterization, and energize groups who are working together. |
